A hand sewing class for complete beginners to learn the basics – taking up hems, sewing on buttons, replacing zips and adding decorative features to clothes to give them a more unique look. Shirley Foulds
(pictured) has many years experience of teaching needlework and welcomes you

Safer Neighbourhood Team

by Castle Ward Police Community Support Officers
Last Friday of each month, 12.30 – 1.30pm
The Police provide a monthly drop-in at the Community Office with the aim of
focusing on local priorities and reduce crime and disorder in Castle Ward
by working with the community to address any issues that arise. The
Office also has forms to fill in to help identify any issues.
These can be posted in a box at the Office entrance which is checked
regularly by staff and police.

The following are examples of
assistance available during drop-ins:
Anti-social behaviour issues
that affect your quality of life including nuisance neighbours,
rowdy behaviour, vandalism, drug dealing and street drinking. Please
do not suffer in silence.
Personal crime reduction,
including household and property - this can include a crime prevention check
of your property if requested
Security marking such as UV pens
and smart water
Bogus callers and travelling
salesmen - how to determine if somebody is genuine and your rights when
somebody calls at your door uninvited
Personal safety and identity
theft
Vehicle crime prevention
including arranging the post-coding of bicycles and a registration logbook
to complete so that the bicycle is easier to identify if lost or stolen
Information on all Neighbourhood
Watch schemes currently running in the area or assistance with how to set a
Neighbourhood Watch scheme up.

Laptop Workshop

Regular volunteers are happy to share their knowledge of computers during
Open Sessions to help others to gain skills and confidence. Topics covered
include basic mouse control and keyboard skills, word processing, accessing
the Internet and using e-mail. This assistance is free, the only charge, 50p
per hour for accessing the computers, goes towards our electricity, rent and
stationary
bills.
